Building Confidence Video Pick: Validation -- Building Confidence in Others
This may seem like a strange choice for my first building confidence video pick--after all, it's about building up others, not building up yourself. But I believe this video carries with it a profound message.
It starts with an Average Joe going to get his parking ticket validated--but what he finds when he meets the attendant is anything but average.
Hugh Newman, the parking attendant played by TJ Thyne, dispenses both free parking and free compliments. As it turns out, people are hungry for the kind of real validation that he gives them, people line up to hear from him what they never hear from other people in their lives, and he transforms the world with his positive, uplifting messages--just because he likes to see people smile.
But the story doesn't end there.
He meets a woman (who works at the DMV, no less), who refuses to smile, despite all he has tried.
How does he finally win her heart (and her smile?), well, you'll have to watch the movie to find out.
And what does this have to do with building confidence? Well, it all goes back to the golden rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
You see, people are starving for confidence. And we can help give it to them by complimenting them--pointing out the good that we see in them that so often they have a hard time seeing themselves.
And when we build up others, we end up building up ourselves. That's exactly what happened to Hugh Newman.
And that's exactly what will happen to you.
Go forth with boldness. With certainty. With self confidence. And enjoy!
